DIA 01: Huaraz – Queropalca (3800m/12464ft) - Caminata Queropalca – Carhuacocha (4250m/13940ft)

Duration: 6–7 hours (by vehicle)

We begin with a six-hour drive from Huaraz to La Unión. From La Unión, we continue for another half hour to Huánuco Pampa (12,257 ft / 3,736 m), located on a vast plateau. We’ll visit this intriguing and captivating ancient Inca city known as Huánuco Viejo while enjoying lunch. Afterward, we continue on to Queropalca, where we set up our first campsite. Overnight camp at: 3,800 m / 12,464 ft

Duration: Approximately 5 hours
Distance: Approximately 11 km

Here we’ll meet our mule drivers and pack animals. From this point, we hike to Carhuacocha Lagoon at 13,615 ft / 4,150 m. From Carhuacocha, we enjoy close-up views of the snow-capped peaks of Jirishanca and Yerupajá, beautifully reflected in the lagoon’s waters. We camp along the shores of Carhuacocha.

Day 02: Hike to Siula Viewpoint and Siula Lagoon – Return to Carhuacocha

Duration: 5–6 hours

We spend another night at Carhuacocha to fully enjoy the mountain surroundings. Today’s day hike takes us through a side valley, passing the base of Yerupajá and Siula Grande. Along the way, we encounter three glacial lakes, each with its own unique shade of blue or green. Occasionally, we witness avalanches cascading from the glaciers into the lakes—a truly awe-inspiring sight.

Day 03: Carhuacocha – Carhuac Pass (4,650 m / 15,255 ft) – Mitucocha Lagoon

Duration: Approximately 5 hours
Distance: Approximately 11 km

A steady ascent along a well-defined trail leads us to Punta Carhuac Pass (4,650 m), with great chances to spot the elusive viscacha, a rodent native to the high Andes. Weather permitting, we’ll enjoy spectacular views of Yerupajá and Siula Grande peaks from the pass.

We then descend to the Janca plateau and head southeast to tonight’s campsite beside another stunning lake teeming with trout—Mitucocha Lagoon (4,250 m). After lunch, you’ll have the option to take a walk around the lake. From our camp, we’re treated to magnificent views of the rugged face of Jirishanca (6,094 m) and Jirishanca Chico

Day 04: Mitucocha – Cacanan Pass (15,584 ft / 4,750 m) – Rondoy (14,104 ft / 4,300 m)

Duration: Approximately 6–7 hours
Distance: Approximately 12 km

Leaving our campsite, we head toward Cacanan Punta Pass at 15,584 ft / 4,750 m. From this viewpoint, we’ll enjoy spectacular vistas across the valley and may even have the chance to spot majestic condors soaring above the pass. We then descend to our campsite in the Rondoy Valley (14,272 ft / 4,350 m).

Day 05: Rondoy – Sambunya Pass (15,584 ft / 4,750 m) – Jahuacocha Lagoon (13,448 ft / 4,100 m)

Today is a challenging day, but the effort is absolutely worth it. You’ll be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic and majestic views as we gradually ascend through the Rondoy Valley. After reaching the top of Rondoy and Sambunya Pass at 15,584 ft / 4,750 m, we descend toward the stunning Jahuacocha Lagoon.

We’ll camp along its shores at 4,050 m (13,287 ft), surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery.

Day 06: Jahuacocha – Pampa Llamac Pass (4,300 m) – Llamac – Huaraz

Duration: 4 hours (hiking), 4 hours (by transport)
Distance: Approximately 9 km

After an early start and a gentle one-hour descent, we begin a gradual climb to our final pass—Pampa Llamac (4,300 m / 14,108 ft). From here, we enjoy our last sweeping views of the Huayhuash mountain range.

Then we descend steadily back into the Llamac Valley and down to the village of Llamac, where our transport will be waiting to take us back to Huaraz—and that long-awaited hot shower at your hotel!

We arrive in Huaraz at approximately 4:00 PM.
