Huaraz – Llaca Ravine – Llaca Lagoon Hike – Return to Huaraz
Distance from Huaraz: approx. 25 km by vehicle, 5 to 6 km on foot
Difficulty Level: Moderate
After hotel pickup, we’ll head by vehicle toward Llaca Ravine via the route that passes through the village of Marian. After about 1.5 hours of travel, we begin our hike at the entrance of the Llaca Valley, following the river that flows down from the lagoon of the same name. The trail gradually ascends through the valley, and after approximately 2 to 3 hours, we’ll reach Llaca Lagoon (4,470 meters / 14,665 ft), known for its turquoise waters and dramatic location beneath the towering peaks of Ocshapalca (5,888 m / 19,318 ft) and Ranrapalca (6,162 m / 20,217 ft).
After spending time at the lagoon and taking plenty of photos, we’ll return to the Llaca refuge where our vehicle will be waiting to take us back to Huaraz.

- Clothing should be appropriate for the season and planned activities. During the sunny Andean summer (mid-April to October), days can be intensely sunny with temperatures reaching up to 68°F (20°C), while nights can drop sharply to around 41°F (5°C). It’s best to bring lightweight or long-sleeved clothing for the day and warm layers for the evening.
- During the rainy season (November to April), waterproof clothing and shoes that can withstand water and cold are highly recommended.
- If you plan to do other outdoor activities around Huaraz—such as camping, hiking, ice climbing, or biking—be sure to wear appropriate clothing and gear.
